Stars of FC Barcelona - Thierry Henry

Thierry Henry joined FC Barcelona from Arsenal in the 2007 summer transfer window on a four-year deal, having broken nearly every Arsenal record during his time at the club. His achievements at the London club include the all-time top scorer (214 goals) as well as being the top scoring player of all time in the Premier League (164 goals).

Considered one of the best strikers in the world, Henry combines his own effective footballing skills with being a team player and is versatile and fast in his position up front in the centre or on either wing.

Thierry Henry was born in Les Ulis, France on 17th August 1977 and was asked to sign for Monaco aged 13 when a scout saw him score all the goals in a match - the score was 6-0.

After debuting for the first team in 1994 he helped win the league title in the 1996-7 season by which time he had earned international call up - he was in the winning French World Cup squad in 1998 as well as being runner up in 2006. However, when he moved to Juventus in 1998 for a season, Henry’s play was disappointing and he scored just 3 goals in 16 matches.

Moving to Arsenal, Henry initially struggled in the Premiership. However, once he found his feet he made his mark and became the top goal scorer for the club for nearly ever season he played there. He was also the top Premiership scorer in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Henry was part of the teams that won the FA Cup three times (2001/2, 2002/3, 2004/5), the Premiership twice (2001/2, 2003/4) as well as the Community Shield on two occasions (2002/3, 2004/5).

Personal awards include the Golden Boot in 2004/5 and 2003/4, and he is the only football player to have been awarded the Footballer of the Year three times (2003, 2004, 2006) and the only player to have been named French Player of the Year four years in a row.

Henry’s has just got his feet under the table at FC Barcelona, but if they can tap even a fraction of his talent and ensure that he is played rather than waiting on the sidelines, it seems there is more to come from Thierry Henry.
